Baur, R., Wijnands, F. and Malavolta, C. (eds.),

IP and IPM are concepts of sustainable agriculture which have gained international recognition and application. The concepts are based on the use of natural resources and regulating mechanisms to replace potentially polluting inputs such as pesticides. Since 1976, the International Organization of Biological and Integrated Control (IOBC/WPRS) develops and improves the concepts of IP/IPM and the principles and objectives were first published in 1993. The principles of IP/IPM are since updated regularly. Crop-specific technical guidelines, needed for the practical implementation, were established and published for the first time for Pome fruits (2008), Stone fruits (2003), Grapes (2007), Arable crops (1997), Soft fruits (2007), Olives (2002), field vegetables (2004) and citrus (2004). These documents are up-dated in regular intervals by experts of the IOBC/WPRS working groups under the coordination of the IP Commission.
The compilation of all IOBC guidelines in this book aims at providing a comprehensive overview of the state-of-the-art of IP/IPM according to IOBC. The current set of IP/IPM guidelines and the related tools have been thoroughly tested in practice, and they have proven to be helpful and inspirational for farmers' organizations looking for a feasible way of sustainable agriculture. More than 10 years of close interaction with endorsed grower's organizations have greatly facilitated the continued improvement of IOBC's conceptual and technical framework.
