Windbreaks are essential for the protection of raspberry, blackberry and blueberry plantations and should be planted on sites exposed to strong winds. Hedgerows should provide adequate screening to prevent pollution and contamination of fruit by exhaust fumes from busy roads. High diversity of their composition and structure should be the aim, using or encouraging native species where possible.

IP guidelines should encourage the identification of species in the ecological infrastructures and stimulate the conservation of useful organisms.
