Cristina Castañé is a research scientist in entomology (PhD 1989) at Research and Technology, Food and Agriculture (IRTA) in the Centre of Cabrils (Barcelona), Spain (http://www.irta.cat/en-US/Pages/default.aspx). The Institute expertise includes: agronomy, postharvest, plant breeding, plant pathology and entomology.
She has experience in research, development and transfer of integrated pest management (IPM) programs for horticultural crops and stored products. During the last 10 years she has been working on the biology, behaviour and taxonomy of predatory heteropterans, particularly in protected and field vegetable crops. More specifically recent works have been focused on tri-trophic interactions among predators, pest and non-pest preys and plants. The study of natural enemies of stored pests and the use of modified atmospheres for their control are other topics of her research.

She has been a member of the IOBC-WPRS Working Group “Integrated Control on Protected Crops, Mediterranean Climate” for about 30 years and the convenor of the group from 2003 to 2012.
