George BROUFAS

George Broufas is Associate Professor in Agricultural Entomology and Zoology at the Department of Agricultural Development, Democritus University of Thrace (Greece). Since 2012, he is Adjunct Professor at the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania. He teaches several undergraduate and postgraduate courses related to integrated pest management, biological control, and applied entomology/acarology. His research interests are focused on the biology and ecology of predatory insects/mites, side effects of pesticides on biological control agents and integrated control of insect/mite pests in greenhouse and fruit crops. He has participated as principal investigator or external research collaborator in several research projects on these topics.

He joined the IOBC-WPRS in 2007 as a member of the Working Group “Pesticides and Beneficial Organisms” and later on the WG “Integrated Control of Plant-Feeding Mites”. He was the local organizer of the meetings of the above WGs that were held in Chania in 2016 and 2017, respectively.
