María Socorro Serrano Moral obtained the PhD in Environmental Science in 2012 at the University of Córdoba (Spain), where she currently is a hired professor in Agroforest Pathology. During her first postdoctoral period at the University of Berkeley, California (USA), she joined the research team led by Dr. Matteo Garbelotto. There, she worked on epidemiological aspects and population evolution of Phytophthora ramorum, the main causal agent of the Sudden Oak Death. In 2017, during a second postdoctoral period at the Institute of Natural Resources and Agrobiology of Seville (Spain) her research was focused on determining the effects of climate change on Phytophthora cinnamomi root disease on Mediterranean mixed forests. Since 2021, she is member of the Agronomy Department at the University of Córdoba, working on various aspects, especially biological control, of Mediterranean forest species diseases caused by oomycetes and fungi.
She is co-author of 35 original scientific publications in JCR-indexed journals, two book chapters, 33 proceedings and more than 90 communications presented at international and national conferences. She also participated in the organization of 2 international meeting.
Since 2010, she attended the IOBC-WPRS WG “Integrated Protection in Oak Forest”. In 2025 she became convenor at the fungi subgroup of this division.
