Nazanin ZAMANI-NOOR

Short CV

Nazanin Zamani-Noor is originally from Shiraz, Iran, where she completed her BSc and MSc in Plant Pathology and Mycology. In 2007, she relocated to Germany, where she earned her PhD from the Department of Plant Pathology and Crop Protection at the University of Göttingen. Since 2012, she has held the position of senior research scientist specializing in Oil and Protein Crops at the Julius Kühn Institute (JKI), Federal Research Centre for Cultivated Plants; Institute for Plant Protection in Field Crops and Grassland, Braunschweig, Germany (https://www.julius-kuehn.de/en/a).

Nazanin and her team focus primarily on developing integrated and sustainable strategies for controlling fungal pathogens in oilseed rape cultivation. This includes the characterization of German Plasmodiophora brassicae populations, the exploration of strategies to suppress clubroot disease, the monitoring of occurrence of Sclerotinia stem rot, and the enhancement of the SkleroPro forecasting model. Extensive studies on fungicide resistance are conducted through monitoring programs, alongside the evaluation of various management strategies. Additionally, oilseed rape lines are screened for disease resistance by Nazanin and her team during the official examination conducted by the German Federal Office of Plant Varieties (BSA).

Furthermore, Nazanin evaluates the efficacy of fungicides and plant growth regulators within the framework of authorizing plant protection products in Europe. As an active member of the EPPO Panel on Efficacy Evaluation of Fungicides and Insecticides, she contributes to the development of international standards for plant protection products.

In addition to her research, Nazanin lectures at Leibniz University of Hannover, where she teaches general plant pathology as well as integrated pest and pathogen management. Her extensive experience in both academic and applied plant pathology underscores her commitment to advancing sustainable agricultural practices.

Nazanin has participated in all meetings of the Working Group “Integrated Control in Oilseed Crops” since the 15th meeting held in Belvaux, Luxembourg, in 2013. In 2024, she was elected Convenor of the ICOC Working Group during the 19th IOBC-ICOC WG meeting in Dresden, Germany. She also served as one of the editors for the most recent issue of the IOBC-WPRS Bulletin, Vol. 157, published in 2022 (Proceedings of the online meeting).
