Detecting introduced species in the slug fauna of the British Isles

Abstract: The problems of discriminating native from introduced slug species in Britain andIreland, and of knowing the existing fauna so that future introductions are detected, are discussed. To help resolve these, we suggest the slug fauna should be taxonomically clarified, geneticallyscreened for known pest lineages, and the public profile of slugs, raised to promote vigilance.
