Abstract: Maintenance of diversity of thought and independent research centers, whether academic, government or corporate, is essential to continued success in developing microbe-based agricultural tools. ABM has a unique business model that enables it to develop efficacious biological control/stimulant products on an accelerated timeline despite its small size. A case study, including strategy and supporting data, of a Trichoderma atroviride-based nematicide is presented from discovery to release of an EPA registered product. Key factors in maintaining an independent, research-driven company focused on delivering biocontrol products to growers are discussed.
