Abstract: We studied biology of hemp aphid, especially the effect of temperature and pesticide
on survival, development, fecundity and demographic parameters. The optimal temperature for
Phorodon cannabis development was 25 °C. At this temperature insects lived 25 days,
reproduced within an period of 15 days and the average fecundity per female was 112 nymphs.
The herbicide treatment increased the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT),
β-glucosidase, S-glutathione transferase (GST), oxidoreductive peroxidase (POD), and
polyphenol oxidase (PPO), but only on certain days after treatment, indicating mild stress in
aphid tissues.
