Progress in the sustainability of stored product pest control with carbon dioxide and especially in pressure disinfestation

Abstract: Pressure disinfestation with carbon dioxide has been the fast and efficient method of controlling stored product pests for over 30 years. As pressure disinfestation is extremely
timesaving, it is possible, for example, to kill the Indian meal moth and destroy its eggs under
two hours. This makes pressure disinfestation with carbon dioxide one, if not the, most effective method of controlling stored product pests without the use of poisons. However, the question increasingly arises as to whether carbon dioxide is still the “right” medium in times of global warming.
