Abstract: Microsclerotia, the dormant structure of Verticillium longisporum, can stay viable in the soil for many years. To better understand the soil fungistasis effect on microsclerotia,
the effect of soil bacteria and their volatiles on the germination of microsclerotia was
evaluated in vitro. The results showed that fatty acid compounds in bacteria volatile might
play an important role in microsclerotial dormancy in soil.
