Short CV

Angelo Canale is associate professor on Agricultural and Applied Entomology at the University of Pisa (Italy), where he teaches Integrated and Biological Control and Apidology, at Master Degree level. His research is focused on tri-trophic interactions in the parasitoid-plant-phytophagous model, biological control of fruit flies – with particular emphasis on the host location strategies of parasitic wasps and their chemo-ecology – repellency and toxicity of plant extracts against agricultural and medical insects, pollinator insects of crops. His research activity is documented by more than 170 ISI indexed papers. He was/is involved in several national/international projects, including the recent EU project iGUESSmed “Innovative Greenhouse Support System in the Mediterranean Region: efficient fertigation and pest management through IoT based climate control”.
He serves as editor of several international journals, including Crop Protection, Molecules and Insects. He is an Editorial Board Member of Data in Brief.

He has joined IOBC-WPRS more than ten years ago. He has attended numerous IOBC-WPRS WG meetings since 1997 (2nd International Open Meeting on “Fruit Flies of Economic Importance”, Lisbon, Portugal, 1997; 2nd European Meeting of the IOBC-WPRS Study Group, Integrated Protection of Olive Crops, Florence, Italy, 2005; 4th European Meeting of the IOBC-WPRS Study Group, Integrated Protection of Olive Crops, Cordoba, Spain, 2009; IOBC-WPRS Working Group “Integrated Protection of Fruit Crops”, Vico del Gargano, Italy, 2010). He participated as a member of the scientific committee for the 8th IOBC-WPRS meeting on Integrated Protection of Olive Crops (Florence, Italy, 2018) and for the incoming 9th IOBC-WPRS meeting on Integrated Protection of Olive Crops, Lisbon, Portugal, 2021. In 2021 he was elected as IOBC-WPRS Council Member.
