Potential of Xylocoris flavipes (Hemiptera: Anthocoridae) to controlTribolium confusum (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) in Central Europe

Abstract: The discovery and investigation of control strategies for the flour beetles Triboliumcastaneum and T. confusum, especially for use in flour mills and processing facilities, is a majorchallenge for stored product protection. In this study, the control potential of the Anthocoridpredator Xylocoris flavipes, the warehouse pirate bug, is evaluated for temperate regions. Data onthe suppression effect of X. flavipes against T. confusum in the presence of thin flour layers orlittle amounts of flour is presented. A control strategy and further research needs are suggested.
